Lying can also be used as an act of self-sacrifice. One endures the unwanted in self-sacrifice in order to respect authority, save relationships, and to proxy a harm for another person. In light of respecting authority, to lie gives one an appearance of submission which in these circumstances will make issues between one and the authority figure to be easier to bare. Given a better circumstance, to be submissive in that light helps one be liked by their leader. Contrast that to being blatantly disrespecting the leader and most likely relations with that person will be more difficult and more tense. In more worse situations, one would be fired from their duties. To lie in these circumstances is to be humble and the opposite of that, which is to tell the truth, is to be proud. Being humble in these circumstances is a virtue in which one exemplifies an upright character that people look up to. In contrast, to be proud exemplifies being ignorant and is considered despicable to the general populous. As we see all the good results in lying and the bad results in being truthful, what would make one choose these results would be from one's character. To lie here is to have a character of being disciplined which is to swallow one's personal desires to be able to do the right thing. Contrasting this would be the character of one to always want to self-gratify oneself. The self-gratified says what is true to himself to be able to gain instant relief from the bottled up thoughts that he might want to release.
