I started attending Clark College last year in hopes of gaining my AA in a transfer degree to a four-year university. However, there are obvious steps I need to take prior to attempting this feat. Grade-wise, I am striving for A’s across the board, and I know that will be important for me to retain everything I learn in the process. In my opinion, it is important to gain friends that are supportive of my endeavors and aim to help me reach my goals, whether it be through studying together or pushing each other to our limits. I tend to stay within familiar circles, so another goal of mine is to step out of my comfort zone and meet some new people. By the second week of each quarter, I’d like to have a few friends I can get support from so as to maintain a good grade throughout the entire quarter.
At a maximum of 10 years after my schooling is completed, I want to achieve a successful career in law enforcement. I probably won’t be top of the food chain, but I’ll be on the path to getting into a position where people respect me. Ideally, I will have a prospect for marriage and will be working towards a family, but that’s out of my hands at this point. I also would like to be able to afford a roof over my head, enjoy life and live it to the fullest, and be entirely self-reliant. I want to continue to strengthen my testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and set an example for others.
Throughout these 5 to 10 years I have to set goals to shape myself into the man I want to be. If I never set goals for myself and never put forth the effort needed to get A’s in my classes and accomplish my goals, then i wouldn’t be able to earn what I want. If I didn’t have goals to maintain a relationship with my friends, I may start losing them because I didn’t put any effort into the relationship, I’d just be going through the motions. I for one do not want to do this so I plan and making SMART goals so I’m able to accomplish my dreams and hold a sufficient position in life come 10 years from now.
I learned that there is always somewhere to go to gain the help you need to succeed. Whether you need help now or need some to help you plan for the future there are places you can go. I learned about the Advising center and how they can help you be more prepared to know what you need to take in future quarters to come to gain your degree. There is also the tutoring center where people can get help with the classes
