Life of Marketing

People have always told me that marketing is worthless, and that the only way to make money is accounting or finance. What people don't understand is that marketing is the center of business. The amazing thing about marketing is that you have the opportunity to be part of each department in the company.
As a marketer you must be like a scientist. Working in the lab, making experiments. Creating services and products ideals to cover customer's needs. You will also need to know some psychology to keep in mind what makes people decide, the way they see things and act. Numbers will be fun enough to help you consider the proper price, cost, margin and clear objectives in promotions (remember everything can be measured), you will also be a important part of human resources. You will help transmit the company's ideals, values, and core beliefs.
Having to be book smart and street smart was something that stood out to me most. I love the way you have to use ones creativity to produce a campaign to influence a possible buyer. But being able to use your book smarts to tie in how the brain works to use it in that campaign. I also love that marketing is for people who enjoy working in teams trying to develop new ways to market to the customer. The job is never the same thing twice. Unlike accounting or other majors, which require the same action over and over.
Marketing is always taking something old and trying to create ways to reinvent the wheel so to speak. Being a marketing major you are always communicating and delivering value to your potential customers. You can't only be able to sell a product but build relationships by understanding the marketing channels and learning behaviors and identifying trends to come. What I love about marketing is you always try to stay one step ahead of the trends.
Every company understands the importance of marketing. A good product ends up being only as good as the campaign to sell it. Marketing is the channel from the business to the consumer. Marketers are why you use or hear about a particular product.
My favorite quote of all time was from Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple. "People don't know what they want until you give it to them" Question is what do you give them? Marketers need to find out what "that" exactly is. It's a puzzle so to speak, which makes my future job so interesting. You don't
