Life can take us on many journeys but it is up to us what journeys are fitting for our future. As I walk around this place, I see people walking here and there. There's plenty of laughing, talking, loud music, and people eating. There's a unique overwhelming feeling that comes over me as I walk down the stairs of the cafeteria.
When I look around I see four buildings that are used to house students. These buildings are made of red brick and appear to have occupied students for many years. One of the four buildings is surrounded with workers in hard hats and orange jackets. Across the street is the place where I'll spend my first year away from home.
Outside of my new home, many people are moving televisions, suitcases, refrigerators, and anything else that will ensure an easy and comfortable transition. My room is on the third floor and my family and me have tons of things to carry upstairs. My roommate is already in the room straightening her side. I begin to unpack, but I look at the time and it's time for band practice.
There's a certain rush that fills me on my way to practice. My heart is pumping and blood is flowing because the band excites me. At practice, I go to my section to sit and prepare to play my instrument. To my surprise, new music is being passed down to me as the drum major is speaking of our upcoming game.
During practice the band director yells, "To the field." So everyone gets up and goes outside for line-up. The drummers begin their routine cadence as the band begins marching. As I march out of the gates to cross the street, I see a sign that reads TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY. At this moment, I realize I am now a college student. There's no place on earth like Tuskegee University.
