When it comes to differences between a logical design and a physical design of a network is very easy to think and say that one is physical and we can see it, and the other is logical and suppose the function of it. But there is more information that we need to know in order to note the differences from one to the other. The physical topology is the designs of a network were the actual appearance of the cabling is used on a network.
what we can see and touch, but again that is not only the answer for this definition since the physical design used in a network vary and there many to choose such as the Ring topology, the Bus topology, the Star topology, the Mesh and many more it only depends in the needs for the person or company who is trying to implement such service.
The Bus use a backbone that helps to connect all devices through a single cable that is in charged to have a shared communication the problem is if a cable fails the entire network fails. The Ring topologies works different since each network device has two neighbors that are the ones in charged for all messages travel in a circle direction making more faster to communicate that the bus but as well as the bus networking if a single cable fails, the entire network could failed as well. The Star network topologies are more common to find since they use a central connection point a hub is more common, but a switch is more efficient and also can be used as central connection point, with a fiber optic cable plugged to a switch each device attached to that switch will have the same speed the only way a network cold failed is if the central connection point failed. The Mesh network is more efficient since it works by connecting devices with many redundant connections between networks nodes and some of the pros and cons about this network is that is based on wireless standards and others are proprietary and some times a mix of the two. Since are two different Mesh networks the full and the partial, the full is most expensive than the partial but the partial can do well and is more used in business.
The Logical network has a function were each host transmits its data to all other host inside the network. The Ethernet function is based on who ever uses the network first since there is no order to follow. To the opposite of the physical this is the one that you don't see it, and not touch it
Some of the logical topologies that are more use are the ring logical
