Imagine being stuck on an island with nothing to get home on and no signs of civilization and stuck with just little kids to have to provide for. This is the story Lord of the flies by William Golding. A hero is defined by many things. The one bad thing he did can outweigh all the good things he has done. That does not automatically make him a villain though. The story takes place in World War 2 times just after the nukes drop. After surviving a deadly plane crash, the boys on the island are drawn together by Jack, who immediately puts the kids first by hunting and protecting, showing where his heart and head are at,thus proving he shoud be at least the leader.

In the story Lord of the Flies, Jack is a very prominent character, and as soon as he is introduced, he is a leader. His whole presence is like a general," The boy who controlled them was dressed in the same way though his cap badge was golden"(Golding 19). Well look at that! Jack is already a leader. If he was a leader beforehand, That should be a good sign about him. If he can keep a chorus together then why not of the whole group, oh wait here comes Ralph stealing thunder. Ralph came in, stole the leadership, and then He reduced Jack to the captain of the hunters. Thank you Ralph. Pretty sure that won't come back to bite you in the butt.

Jack would have been a very smart leader. First off he knows how to win over the people like a true politician. In the movie he was able to cheer everyone up in a dreary moment, then that is a really good ability to have with a bunch of little kids. Jack knows when to take sides and also when to take sides to his own advantage. Even in the face of possible death, "'Ralphs right of course. There isn't a snake-thing. But if there was a snake we'd hunt it and kill it"'(Golding 36). This to me shows not only how he knows how to get leverage, but also he knows how to comfort. Jack would make a great leader, but a hero even more so.

To me a hero is someone that isn't just morally just, but also shows grace to those all who deserve it. Jack showed this best, in my eyes, "' What about my hunters?"'(Golding 125), when confronted by the problem of the beast. He is trying to raise the morals of his friends. No villain would do that. If he is the hero, then why would Ralph push him away, well jealousy is strong. Jack may be the hero with fire, but he is also the villain with jealousy.

Ralph's jealousy is what drives Jack away, forcing him to do his few evil deeds. Despite Ralph, Jack mostly keeps his cool, "But one thing remains constant: Jack the leader"(Diken 446).Jack stays the leader like a trooper. But Ralph is constantly trying to put a wedge between Jack and the rest of the kids until, "finally into hunting another human being"(Shields 3). Everything bad that happens is because of Ralph, thus proving Ralph is the villain, while Jack tries to undo these things that Ralph has done, helping my point of Jack the hero.

Any good hero has strategy. If a person has no strategy, they are unpredictable, if they are unpredictable than they
