Kathy Kudler is founder and president of Kudler Fine Foods. She assists in purchasing, advertising, forecasting, merchandise selection and pricing. Under her leadership is Harvey Stephens-Director of Finance and Accounting, Yvonne Reynolds-Director of Operations and Brenda Wagner-Director of Administration and Human Resources.
Harvey Stephens plans and directs the finance and accounting activities for Kudler Fine Foods. Some of his duties include developing and implementing goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting and payroll. Mr. Stephens supervises and participates in the preparation of financial statements and reports. He also develops accounting procedures to maintain accurate records of receipts and expenditures. Yvonne Reynolds manages the operations of three stores, including inventory, purchasing and logistics. She is responsible for store safety, facility maintenance, security, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Some of her essential duties include supervising the Manager of Purchasing and Inventory Manager, serving as consultant to management on operational matters for store operations and developing budgets, staffing levels, store design, product mix, and pricing structures in consultation with other management. Brenda Wagner develops policies and directs and coordinates administrative and human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services. Her essential duties include developing and maintaining a human resources system that meets top management information needs, representing management in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and studying legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends.
Kudler Fine Foods currently has a database that keeps record of various pieces of information. This information is recorded by tables. Some of the tables include the Customer Table which contains demographic data for each of Kudler's customers, the Tender Table which records the method of payment used for an order and the Tax Table which provides tax rates related to orders placed. Kudler utilizes the internet to communicate store hours, locations, products and weekly promotions. Kudler also utilizes the internet to keep track of what their competitors are doing. Management must find a way to sustain a competitive advantage.
"Competition is at the core of a firm's success of failure." (Turban, Rainer & Potter, 2003). Porter's competitive forces model is used to aide in the development of increased competition of companies. Porter's model consist of five major forces which are the threat of entry of new competitors, the bargaining power of suppliers, the bargaining power of customers (buyers), the threat of substitute products or services and the rivalry among existing firms in the industry.
