Marijuana is a leafy plant, which grows wild in many places in the world. It grows mainly around the tropical areas of the world. It can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Marijuana plants are harvested for their flowering tops. The most commonly used form of cannabis are the buds which are smoked or cooked into foods and eaten. Marijuana also comes in a more concentrated form called hashish. Hashish is sort of a resin that comes off of the cannabis plant. It is made into a sticky black liquid called hash oil. The three types of cannabis plants are Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. For the most part, recreationally used cannabis is the result of interbreeding between these three types. The term 'hemp' is generally used to describe low-thc varieties of cannabis, which are grown for industrial uses such as clothing and ropes.
The strength of cannabis varies greatly from one variety to another. Some marijuana, with higher THC content, only takes one or two lung-fulls of smoke to reach full effects while other varieties require much more to achieve the same effects. For example, ј-ounce (3.5 g) of high-quality bud could get around 20 people reasonably high where as a ј-ounce of cheap marijuana, known on the street as "dirt weed", could maybe get 2 or 3 people high.
Marijuana is sold on the street for anywhere between $20 - $150 per 1/4 ounce depending on the potency. Prices in the United States are generally $20-$50 for ј-ounce of lower quality marijuana and $80-$120 for 1/4 ounce of high quality bud. In places like Amsterdam, due to marijuana being legal, prices are significantly less. A ј-ounce of high quality marijuana can be sold for $20.
The possession and sale of Marijuana is illegal in the United States and most countries. Many states have legalized the medical use of Marijuana. Some states have even decriminalized the possession of marijuana under the amount of Ð...-ounce. These states choose to punish people possessing marijuana with a fine instead of sending them to jail. The Alaska Supreme Court and lower courts have ruled that personal possession of cannabis is protected by state constitution's privacy clause. The courts ruled that police were not allowed to enter a home simply based on smelling cannabis smoke outside. The City of Denver voted to legalize possession of up to an ounce of cannabis. Although the city voted for legalization, the federal government can still come in and override the local government. Rhode Island legalized the medical use of cannabis in Jan 2006, overriding a veto of the legislation by Governor Don Carcieri. The law allows people with certain illnesses such as cancer to register with the state, receive a special ID card, and then grow up to 12 plants or buy/possess up to 2.5 ounces of dried cannabis
Cannibinoids are the active ingredients in marijuana. Tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabinol, cannabidiol, cannabinolidic acid, cannabigerol, and cannabichromene are all cannibinoids that are produced by the cannabis plant. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is thought to be responsible for most of the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
Marijuana has been used for medical and recreation throughout history. It wasn't until the early 19th century that the use of cannabis spread from China and the Middle East to the population of Europe and then to America in the middle of the century. Cannabis was made illegal in the U.S. in 1937 and has continued to be a popular recreational substance since that time. Marijuana is the #1 drug abused by teenagers in the United States.
When the buds of the cannabis plant are smoked, the effects of THC can be felt almost immediately. When marijuana is eaten or cooked into foods, the effects take a lot longer to set in. Depending on how much food is in the stomach at the time of consumption, the effects can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 Ð... hours to set in. When marijuana is smoked, the feeling peaks after about 20 minutes and last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 Ð... hours depending on how much marijuana is consumed and the potency or the buds. When the marijuana is consumed through the digestive system, it takes a lot longer to peak but its duration can last anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours. People who use marijuana on a regular basis experience a shorter high than people who do not use it or use it occasionally.
There has been some research into the pharmacokinetics of THC (how it moves through and is processed by the body). A scientist named Grotenhermen studies on marijuana showed that the peak THC concentration after smoking was between 15-30 minutes and sloped down for 1-2 hours. He also showed that oral consumption caused the THC levels to peak between 2 and 4 hours and lasted for 4 to 8 hours.
The primary effects sought by those using cannabis recreationally are euphoria, relaxation, and changes in perception. Effects vary depending
