In the 1930's and 1940's, marketing emphasis was on selling and advertising. The baby boom generation created a huge market. Businesses were rushing around to capture the growing market. The businesses knew they had to respond to consumers needs. Marketing determines customer wants and needs and then provides customers with goods and services that meet or exceed their expectations. The focus of this paper will be to show some Marketing examples of several successful companies and how investments in these companies based on this marketing could have yielded big returns. Negative marketing can cause the opposite yielding huge loses.

Importance of Marketing

Successful businesses focus on getting the basics of marketing. Marketing is based on identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer needs effectively and profitably. It encompasses market research, pricing, promotion, distribution, customer care, your brand image and much more. Marketing is a core business discipline. The study of marketing is important to the basics of running a business, big or small. When you buy a product, the cost of marketing amounts to 40~60% of the total e.g., if we buy shoes for $70, $35 of that 70 has been spent on marketing (including advertising, market research, development etc.) . ( Shapiro, 2006).

I wish I had bought some Google stock when it was first released in a public offering at $80. Google has become the worlds most popular search engine since then and can attribute its success to a great marketing plan. The reason that Google is such a novel company is that there are more users to Google.com than can ever be thought of. Text ads on the right hand border help to promote sites that are willing to pay for clicks to their websites. This one-click advertisement along with the "Reach" of the internet makes Google's Business plan the empire that it is today. Google search can be used as a conversion calculator, among other things, to help a user find how many feet are in a kilometer (type: feet to 1 kilometer).
