The company we selected designs the products by making marketing research, such as they found that there was a real demand for sweeter breakfast foods (generation of ideas), and responding to this research, they came up with the idea of combining the sweet taste of pancakes with the salty taste of sausage or bacon (screening and selection). After this, the executive chef and his team keep experimenting until they find the perfect mix. Finally, the executive chef invite some of the company's suppliers to a new-product meeting and explain them the new idea. So he hear some suggestions and implement them (Product design). Then, before introducing the new product, they test it in some different parts worldwide.
In order of the materials they use, they buy them from many of the same nationally recognized suppliers, are purchased from federally inspected facilities to ensure freshness, wholesomeness and peak quality when served to the customers. As the company's goal is to serve customers quickly, the new product would also have to be fast to prepare. Because of this, the team also pinpointed the exact time needed to grill the sandwich until golden brown, to make the new product look appealing (Process design).
Suggestions to improve this process:
One of our suggestions is to aim marketing research to more specific areas. For an example, here in Laredo, most of the people come from Mexico, they like very spicy food. Otherwise, people form northeast Texas doesn't eat spicy food. The point is to have, for example, a unique sandwich for a country or region.
