Everywhere we turn our heads, we come across advertisements from the media. Weather we're watching TV, listening to the radio or reading a magazine, we are sure to come across the media trying to send their message across. There is no escape, as the media is one of the most effective ways to advertise. The media which once was referred to only for entertainment purposes only, but has expanded itself to play a significant role in society.
The media affects normal day routines in many different ways. Conversations are usually based around the latest movie or celebrity gossip. The media is one of the fastest ways to spread news around the world. Through television we can get our news and find out what the weather forecast will be. Newspapers keep people updated each day on what's happening in their city. During our free time we turn to the media for entertainment weather it's reading a magazine or watching a TV show. Commercials and ad's are the most efficient way for businesses to get their products known and bought. Without the media, lives would become dull and redundant.
Even though the media may have its positive attributes, it also comes with the bad. When watching the television we are made to believe that what we see is true. Ad's consisting of a model, make the viewer believe that that's the ideal "look". A person's views and thoughts change depending on what it is they're watching or looking at. Commercials are constantly competing with each other, trying to convince the viewer that their product is better then the rest. Advertisements are discreet and would show what they want you to see, and hiding the rest in the fine print. Deciding what to watch or what to buy is up to the person's best judgment.
Nevertheless, the media will forever continue to expand and invade our lifestyles. People need to understand that although what we see may be intriguing, it may also be deceiving. Media acts like a magnet attracting its targeted group, and we must become aware of it before its too late. Not everything showed to us by the media is always true. As the media empire keeps on building, we must use and trust our common sense. We will always come across the media, as it comes in many shapes and forms. Media is only for entertainment, and it is us that should create our own reality.
