When most outsiders think about Miami, one of two things comes to mind; South beach and Palm Trees or the real Miami, which is the hood. Most Miami natives know where I'm referring to when I say the hood. Liberty City, Overtown, Carol City, etc. Maurice Young B.K.A Trick Daddy explains his point of view that Miami is more than just Palm Trees and Beaches, and that this country is not all people make it out to be. In the song entitled "America" Trick (as most Miamians call him for short) tells how screwed up our society is, especially when it comes to the treatment of blacks. The other featured artist on this track (Society) put it nicely:
"You only got 2 bucks and give less than a f**k -- then you a nigga
Got a nice home and a Lexus truck -- you a nigga
World champions and you M.V.P -- you a nigga
4 degrees and a Ph.D -- still a nigga
You use your platinum card you need four ID's -- then you's a nigga
If your skin is brown just like me -- then you a nigga
Got a promotion and a FAT a** raise -- you still a nigga
You from the islands and your peoples wasn't slaves -- you a nigga
No matter how much you're a** get paid -- you still a nigga
Shot by the cops at a traffic stop -- cause you a nigga"
Who invented niggas in the first place, who getting 10-20-life on their first case, my niggas.
When it's all said and done, America is not the land of the free. Of course this is my opinion and different people will surely disagree with my stance. For those who would argue against that point, I ask them a few questions: How do you explain the government tapping people's phones with out cause? How come police departments get repeatedly reprimanded for using excessive force on blacks, but still keep their job without penalty. Why cannot
people get decent healthcare in this country. It's all a mystery. But one thing I do know is where i'm from, is definitely not a part of the land of the free.
