Chapter 9
Michael and Andrea are going to go to London. In the morning before their flight, there is a phone for Michael. A priest, who says that he knows Michael from school, wants to have a word with him personally. So Michael invites him to Andrea's home. The priest comes there and tells Michael that he heard Michael had seen the face of one of the lads from the IRA. Then he tries to convince him not to identify this boy, because he knows his mother and this boy is the only child of her. The priest tries to make Michael pitiful, but Michael is angry about this boy and says that he wants him in prison. So the priest leaves and asks Michael to think about his petition.After that Michael and Andrea go to the airport and Michael calls his mother to tell her about his move to London and about Andrea and his divorce from Moira. While the flight to London he thinks about his situation and he is afraid of the IRA.In London he and Andrea live in a flat of Andrea's friends, who are away for six weeks.Michael sees that these friends of Andrea are rich and he worries, if he is good enough for her, because he is the lowly assistant manager of a London hotel. Andrea doesn't accept these worries and after the welcome party, which was made for them both by Elsa Taylor, Andrea's friend, he doesn't worry about this any more too.The day after the party, it's a Sunday, they have a very nice free day. Michael wishes that it'll never end, because he isn't afraid, but he is happy.
