Riordan Manufacturing Upgrades

Riordan Manufacturing’s mission statement clearly outlines the company’s goal of efficiently supplying its products to the customer. The current inventory management system is adequate, but is not efficient enough to meet the goals of the mission statement. Mr. Hugh McCauley, COO of Riordan Manufacturing requested assistance in improving the inventory processes of the company. After thoroughly evaluating the current processes and determining areas needing improvement, many suggestions for improvement were discovered. These improvements to the inventory processes will significantly aid the company in meeting the goals of their mission statement.

Service Requests have been requested by COO Hugh McCauley of Riordan Manufacturing. McCauley has asked that Team D suggest specific systems changes that would improve their inventory or manufacturing processes. Riordan would like to use computer system utilization so that they may become more efficient. Our Team has been asked to create business requirements for system upgrades and improvements for either IT or IS consultants use. During review of the Riordan Manufacturing Companies Inventory and manufacturing processes, we have found areas that are in need of improvement. We will discuss the present processes and how these can be changed to improve the efficiency.

Riordan Manufacturing currently processes the receiving of raw materials by manually entering the receipt of the materials, which could cause inaccurate information due to human error. The receipt of this material is not automated and must be manually entered into the system from a hard copy and is not available until 7-12 after the end of the month. The reports however, are due at the end of the month.

Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. contains all the necessary business systems to operate for day to day activities. However, the current business systems are not primed for optimal efficiency. Information on current issues and suggestions on resolving companywide issues will need to be addressed. The project costs reflect on the operating expenses portion of the operating budget.

Finance and Accounting. The three Riordan Manufacturing locations have independent finance and accounting business systems. The locations are the Georgia plant, the Michigan plant, and the San Jose corporate office. All information is transferred to the corporate office located in SanJose, CA. The finance and accounting information is consolidated into the corporate finance and accounting operating system.

Riordan Manufacturing Computing Platform Upgrade Plan

Riordan manufacturing, a plastic and polymers maker, is in the process of examining their computing network hardware and operating systems. Some of Riordan’s locations are about to have computer upgrades; other locations may also need hard updates. This paper examines Riordan’s current situation, provides some alternatives to consider, and suggests a plan to upgrade and implement new server and workstation operating systems throughout the Riordan Network.
