A. Project Title

"Ur Own Choice" - e-commerce website for an existing souvenir shop.

B. Brief description on project background. (i.e. problem context, rationale, description problem area, nature of challenge)

Problem Context

"Ur Own Choice" is a real life brick and mortar souvenir shop. Its located in Kajang, and that is the only branch they have so far in their 2 years business life. Despite the continuous support from the customers, but yet still the profit margin doesn't show much of change. This doesn't show much of good future in this business. One of the reasons for this is because they found that is because of their least number of branches. For souvenir business like theirs, people or customer tend to be from various parts of Malaysia. And they all want to order from the place they are and want to send it to the people they love. And "Ur Own Choice" knows that they lack in this. And this is where they losing quite lot of customers, because not all the customers want to come all over from their place and do the purchase. And opening up branches in many places does need big amount of budget and we don't know yet, whether it will be a success or not. So investing on this is quite risky and hard this time for them.

The solution that I proposed to them is to build their own e-commerce site online to promote their business. This is the safest and smartest solution for their problem. Safest because, with this website from anywhere in Malaysia users can view their site and make their purchase online. With this in short time, they don't have to open up many branches all over the place to cover up the customers need from various places. Smartest because with this, they making their business online and implementing the use of information technology in their business. This will act as a competitive advantage for them compared to other competitors. Apart from this, this step is also a cost-saving method to promote their business. This is because to advertise their business in real life, will cost more than compared to advertising in internet. With the help social networks and some other advertising website, it cost more lowly or more number of people will able to see it. In order to attract and get more customer, e-commerce is one of the easiest ways in today time. Electronic commerce or business is more than just another way to sustain or enhance existing business practices. Rather, e-commerce is a paradigm shift. It is a "disruptive" innovation that is radically changing the traditional way of doing business (Chung-Shing Lee, 2002).

Rationale

As we mentioned above, the solution for the problem is building a website for the firm which also acts e-commerce site. "Ur Own Choice", e-commerce site. This is a standalone website registered under the company name which allows customer to visit the site and get to know about the firm and their services, and then if they want to make any sales, they can do it via online from the site. The advantage of this will be, as we said to be in front among the competitor in in advance technology. This gives a competitive advantage among the other competitor, and customers will automatically consider shopping here, because it's easy to do it via online. In this site, customers can choose their specific item and purchase it according how they want it to be done. For the outcome of the web application, there are two types of benefits:

Tangible Benefits:

 More sale and cross selling, able to attract more customers. Customers, who can't make it to the shop, can still purchase the item.

 Cost saving, money and resources can be saved due to the online advertising.

 The firm does not need to spend on opening branches in other states to get customers from there.

 Improved margin on direct business with customer, with the help of the website, customers can directly deal with firm. Before this, the shop only available at one place people who can't make it there will try to buy things with send a volunteer.

Intangible Benefits:

 Improved customer service. In the site, customers can directly communicate with the firm regarding the souvenir at any time.

 Much convenience for customers to submit their order, and easier for the firm to keep track on those who really keep responding.

 Improved competitive advantage among competitors who still left behind.

Nature of Challenge

First of all, the main requirement that have to be fulfilled here is the satisfaction and the usability level of the site to customers. Different users, such as expert, intermediate and beginner have different level of knowledge in it. In order the site to be a success one, it should be created in way where everyone can use it without any fault and problems. Since its an e-commerce site online sales does require online payment. For this I have to make sure that its secure enough to make transaction in the site.

Other than this, another challenge I may have to overcome is the security aspect of the site. This is because the site does involve the online transaction part, where customers will make their payment as their last step in the whole process. And we all know that when it involves real money, people or users always get scared about their money and whether the money is really paid for that it meant or being stolen or hacked in between. To ensure I have to make sure that transaction site has all the security aspect that needed. And not only that, but make sure that its well shown to the users and get their trust on this.

C. Brief description of project objectives. (i.e. scope of proposal and deliverables)

Deliverables

The e-commerce site "Ur Own Choice" is website where customers have to go online to view this site with usage of internet. Once they entered the website, customers can view the main page where it shows about the firm and what are their products and services. Once the customers goes through
