Motivation, the desire for individual’s actions and needs. Motivation can direct one’s behavior and determination.  As for my motivation, there are several reasons why I decided to enroll at GCU and pursue a degree in higher education. I am a transfer student from the University of New Mexico. I graduated with my associates degree on may 2016. A lot happened in my life from my graduation date until now. One thing that motivated me to enroll in school again is my sister. Like myself, my sister also enrolled to GCU for her master’s degree. I have a family that consist of five brothers and one sister. Each of my older siblings have accomplished a lot of their goals in education. As for me being the youngest to attain a degree higher than my siblings is my top priority. I am determined to get every degree from an associate’s degree to a PHD. I want to be the youngest out of all my siblings to get these awards at a younger age. Although my motivation is a challenge for me there is one more reason why I enrolled in GCU. I want to make an impact in my community and state when it comes to juvenile delinquents. These are troubled times in our country. Since the year started there has been 18 school shootings and I fear it will get worse as we get by in this year. I want to become a juvenile probation officer and have an impact on every troubled youth. If I can change the life of one or two teens to move away from the wrong path it will be one less criminal in my community and one more successful school graduate with a future away from being behind bars or even a grave.

My motivation is important for my student success because without this motivation I’d have no desire to go to school or pursue and education. Everyone has their own reason to attain student success. As for me, it’s now or never. The longer I wait to achieve my educational success the further my goals and dreams get. Every time I don’t take advantage of education I waist a day and every day that is wasted will be a day I will never get back.

Participating in the discussion forums help me feel connected with my classmates because I can get their feedback on my response to the topics. Participating in the discussions forums also keep everyone engaged in the topic of conversation. Being able to read everyone’s comments helps you see how they think and feel. Staying connected and engaged with the class and the classmates is motivation itself because by participating in the discussions you become part of a bigger group instead of just being a student in the background of a class quiet because your shy, your able to speak up as well and not have the same students talking all the time.  Overall the key take away of this topic is a reminder of why I decided to jump back into my education and why I decided to enroll in GCU. A different take on a classroom and a chance to speak up and be part of the class discussions instead of just listening and taking notes all the time creates a better learning experience.
