After The May Flower
In The movie “We Shall Remain: After The MayFlower” the very first thanksgiving in America happened in the summer of 1621. After The May Flower explains how the Native Americans and pilgrims met and what events occurred during their settlement. The Wampanoag helped the pilgrims to get accustomed to their land and how they survive. In the same year of the Pilgrims settlement, the Wampanoag established a treaty with the Pilgrims. Even though the treaty was made it did not hold water with the Pilgrims within the next Fifty years.
The most eye-catching thing that the Wampanoag did, was help out the Pilgrims like they were their own people. It appears that the Wampanoag’s family was based on helping, supporting, and loving one another. Massasoit (Chief of the Wampanoag) brought four fresh killed dear to celebrate their new friendship. The Pilgrims and Wampanoag could not be more of an odd match. Even throughout all of their differences they made it work.
It was cool how the Wampanoag met other tribes in the same general vicinity of North America. Meeting the Nipmuc, Massachusett, Mohegan, and the Pequet was a good thing for the Wampanoag. Tribes in “Native North America” lecture says how they had their own language, territory, and religions. They traded food, fur, and silver between one another. Everyone was not perfect so of course they had there differences, but they ended up working them all out without going into war.

The Pilgrims spent most of there time building and establishing how they were going to stay in America. They built nice houses, and farms to go along with them. It was almost as if they had planned it before even arriving. The Pilgrims kept coming, and kept coming. It was like they were sending messages to each other saying that it was ok to come over. The Wampanoag didn’t want to stop them because it wasn’t in their believe of how things should be done. Yea they could have killed them ship by ship as they came, but was that really what was right. Most of the ships later on came with children and women, so they new that the Pilgrims wouldn’t start trouble because you don’t bring women and children to violent confrontations.
The Pilgrims started going against the treaty they had signed by killing one another. Even though it was in years time, it was astonishing how fast everything changed. Now all the pilgrims just tried to get as much land as possible, no matter if they made unfair trades or if they just killed to get it. I disagreed with that a lot, it made no since to do break up such a strong bond because the Pilgrims wanted to be greedy or wanted the Indians to follow their religion.
The Pilgrims are a prime example to this day about how hard it is to trust people. After all the trust and help the Wampanoag gave the Pilgrims, they just ended up stabbing them in the back. The Thanksgiving at the end of the day is a lot worst than people think. Indian leaders did as much as they could to not go into war, but it seemed like everytime they resolved a problem, a new one occurred. I know Massasoit felt bad about the unbearable choices he made about letting the pilgrims settle in the first place.
