My Hero: Captain Dad

People dream of being someone else, they dream to be the person they idolize. That person is their hero, they look up to them and depend on them. That hero is who they wish to be like. My dad and Captain Marvel share three heroic qualities; courage, strength, and wisdom. Both of these heroes are looked up to for many reasons, but my dad shows me you can do anything in real life, while Captain Marvel shows possibilities in impossible circumstances.

My dad and Captain Marvel have showed courage in endless ways, but there is only one example for each of them that overpowers all of them. My father was diagnosed with a genetic heart disease that came up while he was serving his 11th year in the Navy. Serving for his country had caused his heart to become unreliable and need assistance just in case something happened. His help was a defibrillator that needed to be surgically implanted into his chest. On April 21, 2005 he was feeling all types of emotions; scared, nervous, and anxious were the main ones. Along with those feelings he was also hopeful about his future and the endless opportunities he had after he fully recovered. On the day he underwent the surgery, he suffered from the pain that came with it but that showed his true courage to live a longer and healthier life. Captain Marvel used to be known as Billy Batson, a fourteen year old boy who lost his family. One day he spoke of the words Shazam.. The word signifies the wisdom of Solomon, the

Being so young and losing his parents though, he and his sister had to move into their uncle's house. Soon after that had happened his uncle kicked Billy out and stole his inheritance. Knowing that his uncle still had his sister but was a powerful man he used his courage to get her back. After his sister was recovered he then gave his own sister the same powers he had so she could protect herself in the future. Seeing that, these being two different situations, both of these heroes demonstrated courage.

The strength in both of these people is phenomenal, not only do they have physical strength but they also have mental strength as well. My father fought another disease along with his heart and that was alcoholism. Although this disease may be looked past by other people, to him it was his demon. April 23, 2008 was the day he conquered that part of him. This transition was hard for him because he had been dealing with that issue since he was 17. With dedication and the people he surrounded himself with it made this obstacle achievable. Physical strength was
