03 Personal Symbol

Leather-bound, cold on the outside, tough, and enduring. No matter its age, it holds secrets and wisdom from others and latter days. It is powerful, but only when another opens it allowing the pristine pages of white to flow, a stark contradiction to its dark exterior. In the beginning of the tome it is shallow; nothing but names, dates, and events. Delve deeper, and let it grasp you as you grip it. You begin to see that it is more of an instrument than anything. Through it, men will bend and waver, ideology will forever change, and entire nations will spring forth or crumble from its contents. It has no endorsements other than that of nature, for the trees sacrifice their lives for the consecrated ground on which wisdom shall be born. The beasts of the earth give their skin to protect it from a fire that burns brighter than any other, which is called ignorance, and nothing surpasses the power it holds over man's soul. For the symbol is love and hate, hope and despair, faith and corruption; the dead speak through this for which the debt was their martyrdom, the living cry for this which is their salvation, and the unborn rewrite this which will be their legacy.

My symbol is a book.
