Trends in Popular American Culture
Trends
One trend that is forever changing in the popular American Culture is fashion. Million Americans struggle with keeping up with the new trends of the fashion world. The media is constantly trying to persuade us into buying the latest item or style to hit the fashion market. Advertisers spend millions of dollars to the media for a one-minute commercial on a major station. Television and Magazines focus on what is hot and what’s not in the fashion world, but they also focus on what others are wearing such as celebrities.
Throughout time cultures have relived earlier generation’s trends. Some trends last longer than others. Bell bottoms, beads hot, pants and polyester have all came and went, came back and left again, some lasting longer than others. All trends tend to become tiresome and boring and end up losing it’s place in society. Trends are made to fade and the good ones always comeback. Whether the trend is clothing, music or hairstyles they all seem to have a time limit. Jeans some how have made the transition from being a trend to being a classic. It seems that anything that is popular is only temporary, but apparently for jeans that theory does not apply.
According to the “History of Jean” website, jeans date as far back as the eighteenth century. One may ask how has jeans survived for so long in the fashion industry. It is evident that with change comes adaptation and that is just want jeans have done. They have managed to change with time and attitudes. Without adaptation comes no existence. Because jeans have been able to adapt to every decade and every change with every generation, they have been able to maintain its popularity in the fashion world. Who would have thought that jeans would make such an impact on the fashion industry and last as long.
Perhaps the rise of the popularity of jeans can mostly be credited to the film and music industry. The effect is not hard to understand, as even today fashion trends are greatly influenced by what high profile celebrities chose to wear. The history of blue jeans in 21st century can be traced to the celebrities that wear them.
