Northrop Grumman Corp.
Northrop Grumman Corp. is a global defense and technology company based in Los Angeles California, employing 120,000 people. The company, per their corporate website, focuses on flour main areas of expertise: information and services, aerospace, electronic and maritime systems, and ship building. (Northrop Grumman, 2007). Their vision is to be a trusted provider of systems and technology that ensures the security and freedom of our nation and its allies. (Northrop Grumman, 2007.)
Organization Communication
Listed with the company's website under their five key behaviors is an example of their emphasis on hierarchical communications, reading, "We want good news to travel fast and bad news to travel even faster up the line. We need to be mindful of the importance of communications problems as well as breakthroughs. The sooner we communication a problem the easier it is for us to marshal resource to solve it." (Normman Grumman, 2007).
Organizational Commitment
Northrop Grumman, looking to tap local techincal resources, has brought software development and technical troubleshooting jobs to five small towns in the United States to mutaully benefit the company as well as the local communitities. Thomas Shelman, president of the Information and Technology Defense Group and creator of the onshoring program at Northrop, stated. "We're getting very high quality and a dedicated workforce." Responses from the community where Northop Grumman set-up shop has been more than favorable. Bob DeMersseman, of the Rapid City Economic Development Partnership is glad to have Northrop's presence in their community. He stated, "Not only will this provide quality jobs with advancement (opportunities) in a major company, but it will provide Rapid City with a reputation for being able to service those kinds of labor needs."
