1. What did these people do?

Richard Hugspurger was associate chief of party in Vientiane in 1967-1969. He went to different sites and helped troubleshoot different problems amongst the IVS'ers. He also knew a lot about the market about the villages and budget that was allocated to AID.

2. How did the experience change their lives?

He thought IVS was a continuation of the church that wanted him to help. He wanted to

help people. I've had different phases of political interests. He's in this job because he likes ethnic diversity and he likes working with people that are quite different from himself and some day he will return to the third world.

3. What is your reaction about the interview?

I think it was hard for them emotionally. This was an everyday Joe now living in Vietnam, it's a culture shock.

4. What do you think about these people?

They are good men and women. They went through a lot and sucked it up, and continued to help others and that is very commendable. I wish these people the best in life, and thank them for being so kind and helping less fortunate people.

5. How can you relate this to the Vietnam War?

I didn't know the CIA was over there and since they were, they were probably gaining intelligence on the war to come. And U.S. military personnel helped out IVS'ers like Hugspurger by rescuing him when he didn't know his coordinates. And the IVS'ers had to dodge isolated roads and military convoys just so they would get shot or caught in the middle of a fire fight. And they also dealt with refugees.
