I would vote for Barack Obama.

Taxes

Obama opposes Bush's tax cuts for upper-income taxpayers proposed for this year. In order to stimulate the economy he would give a tax cut to the lower and middle classes. He would also endorse tax cuts for senior citizens earning below a certain amount and people working at minimum wage.

Economic Stimulus

Obama has in mind an initial tax cut for workers, but if the economy is still going down hill, he will add another. He plans also to help out those affected by the housing crisis and to broaden unemployment insurance.

War in Iraq

Although he says that the war should end now, he plans on withdrawing troops from Iraq slowly, taking approximately 16 months to complete. He also states that an unspecified amount of troops might have to stay back in Iraq to “protect diplomats and carry out strikes against al-Qaida.”

Health Care

Obama would institute a new plan for those who don’t have the resources to cover health, as well as a National Health Insurance Exchange to help out small businesses and individuals. He would also strive to help make coverage more affordable. Obama believes in mandatory health insurance coverage for children but not adults.

Environment

Obama would move to have carbon emissions cut down by 80% by 2050, and move the fuel-economy standard to 40 mpg, forcing big car companies to manufacture more environment-friendly vehicles. Under his vision 50 percent of health care savings would go to this effort.

Gay Rights

Barack Obama supported gay rights during his Illinois Senate tenure. He sponsored legislation in Illinois that would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. He said he would support civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, but does not support gay marriage due to his religious standards.

He supports the freedom of the woman to do what she wants to do with it, and endorses pro-choice, supporting the Roe v Wade decision settled by the Supreme Court. He also is very supportive of the opening of the field of stem-cell research. Obama has admitted to drug use in high school and college, and still smokes cigarettes. He says he has understanding
