It looks like IÐŽ¦ll be gettinÐŽ¦ out of this place yet. The new boys, George and Lennie have got plans. George knows of this place that an old couple needs to sell it, ÐŽÒcause the wife needs some operation. Ten acres for six hundred dollars. Six hundred dollars! I overheard emÐŽ¦ talking about it, and how theyÐŽ¦re gonna set themselves up. ÐŽÒLivinÐŽ¦ off the fat of the landÐŽ¦ Lennie said, imagine that!. I started to ask George about it anÐŽ¦ he got all cagey and didnÐŽ¦t want to tell me nothinÐŽ¦. But then I told him how IÐŽ¦ve got $300 already, ÐŽÒcause of the payout for my dud hand. Plus the money IÐŽ¦ve got in the bank, and IÐŽ¦ll have another $50 at the end of the month. HeÐŽ¦ll start scrappinÐŽ¦ with anyone these days. That wife of his donÐŽ¦t help matters too much neither. He ainÐŽ¦t gonna keep that one too long if he donÐŽ¦t pull her into line. I see her makinÐŽ¦ eyes at the workers, wishinÐŽ¦ someone would pay some attention. SheÐŽ¦s always in the barn hopinÐŽ¦ for one of the boys to come in, anÐŽ¦ then sheÐŽ¦ll go all coy like, trying to draw emÐŽ¦ in to talkinÐŽ¦ to her. SheÐŽ¦s gonna get somebody into a lot of trouble one of these days. CurlyÐŽ¦s just waitinÐŽ¦ for an excuse to sock into somebody. HeÐŽ¦s got his eye on Lennie, just because heÐŽ¦s a big boy. Curly donÐŽ¦t give no one bigger than him a chance. Even if they are slow like Lennie. DonÐŽ¦t matter to Curly, He just wants to prove himself, even if he donÐŽ¦t know who heÐŽ¦s provinÐŽ¦ himself to.
I wish the old dog was still with me. I miss his company. Especially on days like this when everyoneÐŽ¦s outside havinÐŽ¦ a gay olÐŽ¦ time playing horseshoe. WeÐŽ¦d sit together shootinÐŽ¦ the breeze. Well, IÐŽ¦d talk and heÐŽ¦d
