“Show respect even to people who don’t deserve it; not as a reflection of their character but as a reflection of yours. “ This quote is telling me you should never treat people different no matter what. In the book Of Mice and Men John steinbeck shows characters getting treated badly because of their mental ability, race, and gender.

Lennie is being described as a mental person in the book, that doesn’t know what’s wrong from right. Lennie’s dream was to tend the rabbits. In the entire book Lennie killed 2 animals and a person. He killed a mouse, puppy, and n Wife. When Lennie killed the mouse, he didn’t even know he did it. Did Lennie just play the mental part in the book or was his really slow? Was Curley’s wife meant to be killed? Lennie wasn’t supposed to be talking to Curley’s wife because, he was going to get in trouble if George found out. Lennie was roughing Curley’s wife up and she was screaming but, he didn’t know he was hurting her. After all that, Lennie shook Curley’s wife and then she was still because Lennie had broken her neck which had killed her.

Curley’s wife was the only woman in the story, so therefore she got treated different. Before she could even enter the story she was being called a tart. She didn’t have a name at all so she was called Curley’s wife. Why did Curley’s wife happened to be the only woman in the story? George and Candy were the two men who was calling her a tart. Curley’s wife told Lennie she didn’t like Curley because he wasn’t a nice fella. Curley’s wife beauty was the key, she would use it to flirt with the men to make her husband jealous.

Crooks was named crooks because of his crooked back cause by a kick from a horse. Crooks takes care of horses and he lives by himself because was the only black man on the ranch. Crooks was not allowed in the bunkhouse with the white ranch hands. Crooks kept his distance and demanded others to keep theirs. Did John Steinbeck want only one African American man in the story? Crooks was just a independent man who got treated different because of his race, which was not right at all.

We need to change the way that we treat people because no one is perfect, no matter if you're black or white, male or female. Everyone needs to be treated with an equal amount of respect.
