"On writing The House on Mango street"
"It had evolved into a collective story peopled with several lives from my past and present, placed in on fictional time and neighborhood"
This reminds me of a television program I saw about the 90's hip hop culture and how everyone had a different story behind them but when you put all of them together it really shows us what the 90's were about! I think it was the 90's I'm not sure but anyways, it was really cool it talked about how cocaine became a widely used drug and how artist used it and it became famous because they thought it was the rich man's high but when they found out how to like make it faster everyone started doing it. They talked about how drug dealing was the busiest on the first of the month when everyone got there check and how it lead to a depression and you can get all this just by listening to the music that came out during that era. It's crazy! How you can just listen to all of the music from that era and it will be about people being broke and spending their check on drugs instead of the house bills and stuff. Its just shows that music is a way you can express yourself and send a message to the world.
2. "I assumed the world was like Chicago made up of people of many cultures all living together..."
This quote reminded me of our city Santa Ana. Because we are not really that diverse, mostly everyone that live is Santa Ana is of Mexican descent. You don't really see any other race in Santa Ana. But I like it like this because then everywhere you go you see your people "la raza" how us Mexicans refer to ourselves. It's pretty cool because everywhere you go there is someone who talks Spanish and if you or they need help we can communicate because we all know the same langue. I remember one time I was at the store and then this guy came up to me asking me to help him because he was asking the girl where he can find an item. So he told me in Spanish and I told her in English I was there translator. It really helps being bilingual especially in Santa Ana since there is a lot of people that just speak Spanish and not a word of English. Being bilingual also helps you get a job! And to get a job here in Santa Ana you have to be bilingual.
