Origin of Universe

Religion, myths and science have tried to explain the beginning of the Universe. What do you believe most?

Scientists believe that the whole universe was formed through the big bang, a term used to describe a segmentation of a singularity, a very dense but small object which exploded and has been expanding ever since. The singularity contained matter and energy, which traveled around the universe.

Christians believe that the earth was initially without form and void but a supernatural being introduced time, matter, life, energy and space. This supernatural being called God took seven days to create all these, but the terms seven days might not necessarily be literal.

A Chinese myth claims that the universe is a cosmic egg. The earth was floating in the egg and in the centre of the egg was a giant. For 18000 years the giant grew taller and one day his head broke the egg shell. He continued growing but died one day. His eyes became the sun and the moon while his hair became trees. A Hindu myth claims that the earth came from an egg made of gold and silver. The sky came from a fragment of the golden shell while the earth came from a fragment of the silver shell. There are many other myths but they are all more ridiculous than these. However, these myths are passed down orally from generation to generation and are only tales to explain the formation of the universe as men do not have the answers to tell their children and grandchildren.

I believe that scientific evidence to date do not preclude the existence of a creator God. Scientist Stephen Hawking who wrote "Brief History of Time" said that "based on the physical facts presently known by science, one may feel free to believe in a Creator or not, as one wishes".

Science also tries to explain the formation of diverse species through Darwin's theory of evolution. Darwin traveled to numerous places and found that same species of certain animals did have differences, for example, birds with varying types of beaks. Based on this evidence, Darwin believed that evolution created man in a gradual series of tiny evolving steps. However, an explanation of the big difference between man and animal must be provided. Although species can evolve within the same species, one species cannot evolve into another.
