Orson Scott Card Biography
The author of this book and many others, lead and interesting and fun life(at least for a mormon). Orson Card was born in Richland, Washington. He was born in 1951 which makes him about 54years old now. He grew up in many states such as California, Arizona, and Utah. His great grandfather was the founder of a mormon colony in Cardston, Canada. Scott Orson Card was named after his grandfather Orson Rega Card the 2nd generation of the mormon community in Cardston, Canada. When he was a little baby, Orson Card says that the Blackfoot indians which always came over to visit had actually saved his life(no details known).
When Orson was an infant his parents and him moved to San Meteo, California from their home in Washington. Orson's father Willard, had injured his back and so they had to close their sign business and move to Salt Lake City, Utah. There in Utah, his father got his bachelor degree. After his schoolings were over, they bought a little house in Santa Clara, California. When Orson was little he always read fiction books and books about history, and he read the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Soon after he found out about the authors of ancient times such as Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Plutarch, and others of the time.
Orson was 16 when he and his family moved to Orem, Utah. They had to move their because his father got a job at Bringham Young University. While his father worked at the university, Orson attended Bringham Young High School, a private academy associated with the university. He graduated high school at the age of only 16. From there he won a Presidential Scholarship to BYU with an archeology major. After being tired of not having enough money from his small salary at BYU as a copy editor, he started writing a sci-fi book that would be one of the first best selling books that he has written. The book he was writing was called "Enders Game".
While in college Orson met the daughter of one of the professors at BYU and was assistant church historian for the LDS church. He said that he learned a lot
from him, but fell in love. Her name was Kristine and after 3 years of dating, they got married in May of 1977. They had their first baby boy in 1978. From there they had 4 more children, there was 2 girls and 2 boys. Orson's third child died when she was effected with cerebral palsy
