When I read the title of this article I wasn't sure about how I was going to react simply for the fact that I haven't had much interest when it comes to female delinquents in juvenile systems. My knowledge prior to this article on this subject was that the female population in juveniles was nowhere near as high as the male population, but after reading this article I changed my opinion a bit. This article provided me with statistics that made me just say "wow". I had no idea that females accounted for over 59% of run away from homes. It was shocking when it was stated in the article that girls are more likely to get into fights with their parents rather than boys being more like to get into fights with friends or strangers. The most interesting thing to me however was all of the comparisons and studies between girl and boy delinquents. It was quite interesting on how certain programs and studies have come about for girls that were originally born because of boy delinquents. It's just sad that the female population of delinquents continues to climb and nothing seems to be helping. There are so many solutions that could be implemented to try and reduce the number of run away female delinquents since that seems to be the main issue with them. It just seems like such a simple issue to put an end to, yet numbers and population in juveniles seem to keep increasing with girls and young women. This overall was a great article and it proved me wrong in many ways of certain assumptions I had prior to reading it. I just hope that solutions are thought of and hope we can begin to see success in them. People in our country should become more familiar with this issue so they can understand the signifigance that their help could provide to help this common problem throughout our country.
