Our Lady Of Guadelupe: Spanish I History Paper
The story starts on December 9th, 1531, in Tepyac Hill in Mexico. Juan Diego was a Catholic convert who was fifty-five years old, and was going to Mass when he happened to see Mary. She told him that she wanted a great church built on the very ground of which she stood and to go to the bishop. Juan followed her directions and went to the bishop and told him what had happened . The bishop wanted proof so he told Juan to ask for a sign from Mary. Three days later, Juan was rushing along the path. He met Mary again. Juan was going to the priest for his uncle was dying. Mary said his uncle was better and it was true: his uncle had been cured at the moment. Then Mary asked him to go to the bishop again and Juan said the bishop wanted a sign. Mary told him to go to a close rocky area and gather roses. Juan was confused: it was winter- how could there be roses? But sure enough, there were beautiful roses. Juan went to the bishop, carrying the roses in his cloak. He realized that when he showed the bishop the flowers, something else caught the bishop's eye. Juan followed his eyes to his cloak; there was a life-size image of her on it. So the bishop received the sign and a church was built. Even today, a great church stands at that spot.
