The types of pain relief methods have improved since the 19th century. Not only

have the types of pain relief methods improved but also the way pain relief methods are

created. In the article, "The Quest for Pain Relief" the way pain releif methods have

improved are addressed. Also, in this article the different creative ways to improve and

find new pain releif methods are dicussed. Some of the key points mentioned in the article,

nature, and old drugs new tricks.

The European Bever was killed and used for pain relief in the 19th century.

Needed mostly for pain relief methods the Beaver came close to extinction. The main

plant in the beaver's diet was the willow tree. The willow bark contained a anti-

inflammatory agent that was consumed by the Beaver. Later on people began to realize

this anti-inflammatory agent was produced in the willow bark not the actual beaver.

Most of our pain relief methods have derrived from plants or animals. We can get

information about pain relief from nature. One example of this would be the venemous sea

snail. A certain peptide that the venomous snail contains is the key element in the making

of the drug ziconotide. Although this pein reliever can cause some side effects, ziconotide

can treat many types of pain. More information about pain releif can be learned from

nature along with more typres of pain reliever that are out there waiting to be discovered.
