  1. Describe how the introduction and implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) and ISO9000 may impact on the performance of Pars Food Ltd. (901 words)

Each organisation designs its own strategy and long-term objectives in order to work efficiently and maximize the wellbeing of stakeholders. Like any other business, Pars Food Ltd which accounts for large percentage of the UK frozen food market also targets on achieving its goals and driving profitable growth .Therefore, this task will analyse how total quality management and ISO9000 would be able to have an effect on Pars Food Ltd’s performance.

The process of total quality management would be defined as a management philosophy involves all organisations’ systems that enable firms to obtain key objectives (Agus & Krishnan et al., 2000). Furthermore, it is stated that implementing properly total quality management would allow organisations to reduce manufacturing cost and enhance the operating performance of organization, customer satisfaction, and net profit (Walton, 1986). In order to apply successfully total quality management, there are some key elements that Pars Food Ltd should focus on. Firstly, customers should be centred since they play a large role in the performance of sales. It is recommended to integrate Quality Function Development throughout their firm since products and services would be operated and marketed, which means Pars Food Ltd would achieve higher sales, satisfaction level and increase the reputation of Pars Food Ltd’s products. As Pars Food Ltd’s good image disseminates into Europe, it is their advantage to gain the objective of developing into Europe market.

Secondly, in order to develop the organisation, continuous process improvement is a principle factor for Pars Food Ltd to look at. It is believed that a long-run firm need to implement properly total quality management in order to gain success in the industry.  For example, Pars Food Ltd can manage the supply chain efficiently by inspecting carefully each manufacture stage. This assists Pars Food Ltd to eliminate inefficient products, speed up time and increase the quality; therefore, the organisation would be able to meet the consumption demands, decrease rate of rejects and gain customers loyalty.

As a part of total quality management, implementing lean production would help Pars Food Ltd obtain their objective of driving out waste and inefficiencies cost. Waste is defined as invaluable activities consisting of 7 types in total (Kilpatrick, 2003). Especially, Overproduction which means producing redundant activities is the most common type (Black, 2008). To aim at avoiding waste, Pars Food Ltd could integrate Lean and JIT management. Lean is an operation programme set up to enhance manufacture procedures and avoid poor quality products (Ebert &Griffin 2013). If Pars Food Ltd applies this system and concentrates on reducing waste, the firm would be possible to save money of production process. In addition, JIT is a production system that ensures the right produced quantities, quality of goods and proper delivery service can be integrated to improve the organisation’s performance (Oakland, 2000). It is stated that although Just in time and total quality management can operate individually, they can collaborate and support each other in term of increasing total productivity as achieving better quality outputs and reducing operation costs (Flynn et al, 1995). As a result, these processes may help Pars Food Ltd to achieve two targets of minimising inefficiencies and improving customer gratification. Moreover, due to the saving from operation costs, Pars Food Ltd could spend it on marketing budget to develop and advertise their products. Therefore, the organisation would be capable of creating potential goods and developing wider range of products as its long- term objective. Furthermore, employee is the core power of an organisation; as a consequence, Pars Food Ltd is considering investing on staff as one of its mentioned long-term goal. Therefore, managing properly Human resources in charge of recruitment, training and firm structure is a vital factor for Pars Food Ltd to gain its requirement.
