The purpose of this paper is to research e-business processes for Pyxis Medical Manufacturing Company. Pyxis produces medical equipment and related accessories required for support. Pyxis is familiar with e-commerce solutions as it does conduct some e-business with its vendors. To date Pyxis has not implemented any e-business oriented solutions with its direct customers. The company plans to increase sales by adding the ability to sell its products to hospitals on-line. The Pyxis goal is to increase sales by 15% using these e-business processes and decrease raw materials costs by 10% in 2006 through efficient supply change management. Pyxis is on track to increase internal efficiency by implementing an ERP tool. Focus will be on decreasing cycle time of human resource functions and increasing the effectiveness of inventory management. EBusiness solutions for Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management and Customer Relationship Management will be investigated. Two solutions for each of these solution types will be identified and reported on. Pyxis is a mid-sized firm of 5,000 people with offices in the United States as well as the UK, France, Africa and South America. The company is supported by a network of 6,000 PCs that are connected to corporate Mainframes in the United States. In summary Pyxis hopes to show decreased costs and integrate systems wherever possible.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in the PYXIS Medical company will be a major effort on the Information Technology (IT) Department. Our manufacturing of X-Ray machines and accessories in five different countries has presented the company with some logistics challenges.

The initial task is to review two software products that would resolve the company's current challenges. The project team has selected two packages for review, PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne and SAP Business One. Either of these packages are capable of handling the various locations and current challenges the company faces. Presented here will be a review of the two ERP software packages.

PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne

PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne ERP software is one solution to the current company pains. These company pains include increasing the effectiveness of inventory management, being able to view customer profiles/orders/shipment information at other locations, and decreasing the cycle time's in human resource functions. With these goals in mind, the project team has reviewed the PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne ERP software as a solution.

Features

The PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne ERP software package includes 27 different product functions. These include such functions as bill of materials, e-commerce, financials, human resource management, product management sales order processing, warehouse management, and transportation management.

Key Benefits

The benefits of this solution will result from the installation of the various modules that will allow integration among the different locations. By installing all the modules, see figure 1, all functions will now be available for everyone to access. By having this ability to see other locations inventory, sales orders, shipping information, and customer information, management will be able to streamline operations and inventories at each location. Inventories will be managed to a level required by the production load that is established by sales projections and actual orders. Customers will be happy to know that they can get up to date shipping information on their orders. Human resource can now have insight into the management of the 5,000 worldwide employees. Integration of all locations will allow the collection of payroll information everyday instead of weekly.

Cost

The cost of the PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne ERP software will range from $39,123 to $195,612 US Dollars. Estimates for a team to install the software and properly train the end users will be approximately $800,000 US Dollars, roughly four times the cost of the software. This represent the cost to get the software up and running on the corporate mainframes in the United States and the end user training at the offices in the UK, France,

Africa, and South America.

PeopleSoft Case Study - Inter Gold

Inter Gold, headquartered in Mumbai is a global player in gems and jewelry including studded jewelry and polished diamonds. The company's core focus area is on diamond studded precious metal jewelry although it has expertise in the cut and polished diamond segment. A major portion of Inter Gold's business comes from the export market.

The need was to employ an integrated software system that would improve efficiency and facilitate the communication, across a fast growing, geographically distributed environment. It also had to make a transition to meet the requirements of international markets. To achieve this, it is necessary to gauge the buyer's taste well in advance and design production accordingly.

Inter Gold implemented an extensive suite of PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne applications.

Better inventory control, work process communication, and efficiency were achieved. Improved customer-centricity, fast response, error free system operation, data processing and improved customer relations are claimed.
