A Modesto High School band instructor was arrested Friday after police received reports he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Lewis Wilhelm was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on one count of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
The victim told a friend about her relationship with Wilhelm, who is 41 and has been the band instructor at Modesto High for about 10 years, according to a Modesto Police news release. Early Friday afternoon, the friend went to school officials to report what was happening. Administrators then contacted the school resource officer.
When detectives went to Wilhelm's house in the 200 block of Lane Street later that evening, they seized several items, including his computer and cell phone, the releae said. Detectives believe Wilhelm and the victim might have exchanged emails or text messages, the release said. Wilhelm's 15-year-old son was home at the time and was released to his grandmother.
According to the release, detectives believe the relationship between Wilhelm and the victim began in the early summer this year. The victim went to Wilhelm's house at least once. The relationship continued into the school year.
The release said there is nothing to indicate there were other victims, but the investigation will continue.
They ask anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 521-4636.
