It is my belief that all Christians should pray. Prayer, in my opinion, is the best way to communicate with God. Throughout the bible there are several illustrations of how prayer is effective and why we should believe in it.

In Acts chapter ten a centurion named Cornelius is deep in prayer when an angel of the Lord appears to him and tells him to send for Simon Peter. Cornelius obeys the angel and four days later Peter arrives at his house. Once there, Peter preaches to them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. This astonished the Jews who were in attendance to see a gentile filled with the Holy Ghost. This scripture spoke to me because it showed me that no matter who a person is God will still speak to him. All of this took place because Cornelius prayed.

Another passage I was led to was Ephesians chapter three. In this passage Paul falls down on his knees and prays for the churches in Ephesus that they would be able to abound in love and knowledge the way that he has. Paul was so faithful to God that rather than wishing these things for the Ephesians he humbled himself before the Lord and prayed for these things to be so. Paul knew that if these things were going to happen there was only one way to make sure of it- prayer.

The biggest reason for my belief in prayer and the power of prayer is that time and time again there are examples in the Bible illustrating the effectiveness of prayer. In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus tells us that all we have to do is to go into our rooms, close the door, and say a simple prayer to God. He says that if a man asks it will be given unto him. The fact that my God already knows what I need before I ask it is enough for me to believe in it.

I cannot call myself a Christian and not do and believe the things that Jesus did and believed. It would be quite hypocritical of me to say I believed in Jesus, but didn't follow his example. I have made a commitment to Jesus and to his word, and by doing so I must believe in prayer.

There are several examples of how prayer is effective and of why we should use it in our daily walk with the lord. These are the reasons I believe we should pray and I hope that others agree with me.
