Summary: This article is about quality and how when not dealt with at a very high level can be extremely costly. They are costly to the entire organization from the cost of the recall, scrapped products, all the way to the brand equity and company reputation. They are expensive, and getting more expensive as companies are getting sued over manufacturing defects and such nowadays. It also goes on to tell us about how companies are realizing that quality’ is not just in the product is produces, but in how they manage and monitor that quality, but it is also how they do business. Quality should be an important aspect of everything a company offers, from its HR services, all the way to its support services for its customers and even employees, how can the quality of those services be increases and how can they continue to make improvements?
Analysis and Opinion: I think that it is more important now than ever before for manufacturers to improve quality. Consumers have vast resources for doing research on products with the advent of the internet, and blogs and such are becoming increasingly popular online and these are great places for consumers look for true’ information about products. Because people will likely be more realistic on the internet about their products, and you can surely find somebody already using that product even if your close friends and family is not .You still want honest feedback on a product, and if it is of poor quality, you can usually find people talking about it online with a Google search. But I also think that quality goes far beyond just in the products you produce. It has to go to every level of the organization, from the project managers, to the executives, to the people designing the products. Quality has to be thought about at every step in every department. Even your customer service should have quality on its mind, how can they offer better customer service and improve the quality of the service they provide for all your customers. It is vital to the success of a company today to provide the best quality they can possible provide. When quality at any level in a company is declining then they will start to see how big of an impact it ultimately can have. Not only in the expenses of recalls, lawsuits, etc.; but in their brand and company name. People will turn to the next guy if you fail to offer high quality services.
