1. INTRODUCTION

In todays modern and fast world of service industries, where Indian GDP is 54.1% contributed by service sector and which is gaining lot of importance. To understand the Public Relations in services and it’s functioning as a tool for management. I have taken the topic of “Public Relations in service sectors”

Objectives of this project

  1. To help perceive what is public relations
  2. To reflect the operations and scope of  public relations in service sector
  3. To know what are the activities performed by Public relations in Government services.

What it can do and what it will not do,

Why public relations and what is the role in the service sector.

  1. To dispel the notion that Public relations is not advertising and publicity, dressed up attractively to woo the public for personnel gain.
  2. To dispel the notion that Public Relations persons are ‘conmen’ (contact men) and go-betweens.

Against this background I have made an attempt to discover and communicate the kaleidoscopic facets of Public Relations so that the profession could be understood to mean that it is not a servant of any profession but it is profession by itself, like engineering, medicine, accountancy, marketing and the rest.

The project which touches on the know – how and to do how not only of Public Relations but also of communications is expected to provide positive interest to all those who cares for public opinion; it will not, however, be of much use to those have planned to enter ‘maths’ or ‘monasteries’ ,but it will certainly be of  use the rest of the folks who will be immersed in the process of communicating, day in and day out, with their related ‘publics’, to win friends, to influence people, to persuade people for gaining goodwill and mutual understanding.

BENEFIT OF PROJECT TO OTHERS

  • The project is benefited not only to the students but also to everyone because we deal with different people in day today matters. This project gives an idea as to how PR works.
  • To the person who will be studying public relations in depth.

SIGNIFICANCE/IMPORTANCE OF THE PROJECT

The significance of this project will be to study the effectiveness of Public relations management in service sector. This research will be useful for all the service sector organizations for making decisions regarding either implementing the information system or further development of the present system based on the research. This will give idea about how efficient is the public relations with new facets.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The limitations of the research carried out were

  1. Since most of the information carried out using secondary data all the limitations applicable to secondary data are applicable to this study.
  2. Many small practical aspects of Public Relations could not be covered due to collection of limited primary data.
  3. The project includes only those theory aspects which are very essential for understanding the art of public relations very well.
  4. The report in itself is more informative than analytical

SCOPE OF FURTHER STUDY

In depth study can be made of the small sections covered in this study. Further research could be carried out on how to develop more effective and efficient public relations

2. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

All successful men have achieved success not only by doing extraordinary things in an extraordinary way, but also ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

The truly successful man is one who is conscious of his power and determined to develop them. One cannot be the great in anything unless one has a vision of the greatness possible in it.

After listing down the action plan i.e. activities that were required to complete my project. I started with implementation of that plan so that I would complete my project in time. The first aspect that was to be carried out was to read some books on public relations

Research was carried in the following way-:

  1. Primary Data

The aim behind going through primary data was to reflect the operations in government services of public relations and therefore made some personal visit to government services

  1. Secondary Data

The source of data collection will be from Public Service sectors. The collection procedure will involve visiting the Service sectors in the City and get the necessary data for the study from the concerned person. Data is collected through journals, Internet search, company records/bulletin, company reports, etc.

  1. Reading books

This was core aspect of my project as it was indeed very necessary for one to get better insight in public relations, the types and methods of imparting public relations and different methods that would be generally followed by the companies to evaluate the effectiveness of public relations

Some of the books read by me are Making PR work, Principles of Public Relations, Management of Public Relations, and Practical Public Relations

With public opinion against it nothing can succeed.

With public opinion on its side nothing can fail.
