The business research case I choose has to do with the business with which I work for and the situation or situations that have developed.

The name of the establishment is called "Cookie Time" we specialize in cookies of different varieties and cookie cakes that can be decorated per a customer's request. We also do smoothies offered in many flavors and frozen coffees, which come in three different flavors.

This business was began in 2005 and is now under new management because the previous owner wished to move back to his home. The new owners are from India and have never been involved with running any type of food related business. The new owner does run several other stores in the mall a clothing store, a perfume store, and a jewelry store, mind you all are different, but none have anything in common with a food establishment.

The problems being encountered are not being able to understand one another because of the English barrier, and lack of participation. Meaning the new owners are really not interested in learning about what really goes on in the business just with how much money or sales have been made. The other problem we have is that customer service is being affected because of the lack of understanding between employees and the new owners. Communication seems to be the biggest problem underlying all of the above.

Using collected exploratory information, you word the dilemma or the correction of the symptom in question form,

Starting with,

1) How can the organization achieve better communication?

2) How can the organization address problems with customer service?

3) How can the organization get the new owners to understand exactly what entails running this establishment- meaning there is more to running this business than just making sales?

Several research questions may be formulated at this stage. Each question is an alternative action that management might take to solve the management dilemma. Usually the most plausible action, or the one that offers the greatest gain using the fewest resources, is researched first.

The first step is to select a project manager, selecting a project manager will help to keep all parties on track and keep the flow of information moving. They can act as a conduit of communication to make sure all parties are talking about the same things. The project manager also helps to save time and money by keeping projects moving and ensuring that budgets are kept.
