Quality in the Classroom

There is a need for quality in the classroom to help improve student learning and achievement. This will help them to acquire the skills and knowledge that they will need to be successful. There is also a need for quality in the classroom to help assure that the students have supportive excellent teachers who make positive differences in the life of the students. Both of these two are needed to assure quality education.
How can we achieve this? - Teachers
1. Quality testing prior to taking first teaching job.
2. Periodic quality testing of the teachers to make sure they are able to teach; just because they have the knowledge doesn't mean they can transfer it to the students.
3. Frequent performance appraisals and monitoring of the classrooms.
a. During the first two years of teaching the teachers should be appraised and monitored a minimum of two times.
b. After the first two years the teachers should be monitored once a year for ten years and then every other year.
c. The teachers should be required to have so many CEU's yearly to assure that their skills are updated and current.
i. CEU = Continuous Education Units
4. Support methods to help the teachers that need improvement
a. If the improvement is not made, measure to remove the teacher from the position.
5. A method for parents and students to evaluate the teacher on a regular basis. For adult learners this would need to be only the student
6. An effective communication method between student and teacher, and teacher and parent.
How can we achieve this? Ð'- Students
1. Proper qualifying the student prior to entering educational environment.
2. Frequent testing of student's knowledge, not just by formal testing but by measuring their level of understanding of knowledge and skills. They need to show their ability to apply the learning to real life situations, many students can't "take tests" but they must be able to show learning.
