Raving and Rocking
Music today is much more advanced today then it has ever been. Looking back in
the old days when music was merely passed down through generations. Today it's a
world that is technologically advanced. New breeds of genres are emerging very fast and
gaining ground in popularity. Rock is still new compared to other genres but old in
perspective to myself. Trance is a new breed of music created in the late 90's it been
climbing the charts ever since. These to genres may have more in common than you
imagine. However many people feel that trance is fake music they believe that it's all
computer generated and synthesized. Rock on the other hand people feel is a good
resemblance of what real music is with and instrument in hand and band member joining
to create the music. There is no difference between a DJ with his synthesizer and a rock
artist with his guitar, because music is all created from one basic level of notes and beats
how they are intertwined and sound determines if they are different.
Creation is the birth of something new and unseen. Music creation currently is
always falling back on its creator. People who write and produce their own music are
skilled with the tools they have learned and the tools they use. Any real DJ or rock artist
will have the basic skills of music. Knowing the sound of a C sharp or a E flat. Being
able to write out music by hand. Also knowing forms of music such as ABA or ABBA.
All of these basics of music play roles in the actual creation, but for the songs themselves

music is left at the fingertips of the artists imagination.
Rock is very renowned for being loud and bold with its style and character. Rock
instruments are based off other instruments that have been around for years. Such as the
lute is the ancestor of the guitar. Drums have been around for thousands of years.
Undoubtedly when people find a rock band to be good they assume that they are good at
what they do. I suppose there is something about watching an artist playing instrument
beautifully that is mesmerizing and inspirational. Rock music in general can be played
with acoustic instruments but that is not the true heart of rock. Rock lives in the tube
amplifiers and rectifiers. Electric instruments are the heart of rock giving it that
electrically warm sound that resonates to the very soul.
With all its in depth style and sound rock is still just basic music on a simple
scale. A rock fan might be considered hypocritical if he believes that trance music is
unrealistic because it uses digital instrumentation. "I developed my own counter
prejudices that if trance is fake then what is real?" (Reynolds 8). Considering chances are
that his favorite band even performed live is usually mixed digitally behind stage. Or
then that very band goes into a recording studio and they use a mixing board to remove
any unwanted sounds from their music. A few other sounds might even be introduced
with a synthesizer.
Trance was born in the clubs and dance halls of the world. Since its birth many
branches of the evolution of music have grown and bear the fruit of its mother. It
embodies no particular group of people but only the person who made the song. People
proclaim it takes no skills to make a simple beat line and interweaving sounds. I beg to
differ, a real DJ will use a keyboard or multiple boards and know them better then
himself. He knows all these vast beats and sounds are at his disposal. This I find is
extremely difficult when a person has limitless possibilities laid
