When writing the character sketch about my father, James Thomas Jr., I didn't know what to expect from him. Was he going to like it? Nervous and scared, I didn't want to give it to him, but I did. When I came home on Friday evening, I just placed the paper on the kitchen counter hoping he will see it when he arrived home from work. Hearing the car pull into the garage, my heart immediately started racing. Giving my father some time to read it, I then rushed downstairs to see if he approved of the character sketch. Asking him what he thought of it, I was scared of the answer I would receive. My father, who loves to give out constrictive criticism, loved it. He said that he was glad that I understood where he came from. My father also said that I will never be able to say that no one ever talked to me about making the right decisions in life.
Relieved, I was shocked to hear that come out my father's mouth. Even though my father supports me in everything I do, there is always some type of constructive criticism that follows. I was kind of glad he didn't offer any but I was looking forward to what changes I needed to make to improve my writing skills. His reaction to my paper made me and my father only closer than what we were a week ago. Writing this paper helped me realize how truly lucky and blessed I am to have a father like James Thomas Jr. in my life.
