For my reaction paper I chose to go watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Allen Theater on Friday night. I found the movie to be very interesting and hilariously funny. It is a spoof of monster, horror, and sci-fi flicks. The classic movie includes famous actors such as Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, Meat Loaf, and others and is definitely worth seeing.
The movie begins with a woman named Janet accepting a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Brad. The happy couple drives away from Denton, Ohio, only to get lost in the rain. They stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a bisexual, transvestite, who is holding the annual convention of visitors from the planet Transylvania. Frank-N-Furter then unveils his creation, a young man named Rocky Horror, who fears the doctor and rejects his sexual advances. When Frank-N-Furter announces that he is returning to the galaxy Transylvania, Riff Raff (the butler) and Magenta (the maid) declare that they have plans of their own and in the end they kill Dr. Frank-N-Furter with a ray gun.
The title of Chapter 7 in the textbook is Sexuality and The Rocky Horror Picture Show obviously contains many things that involve sexuality. First off the main character of the movie is a transvestite (Dr. Frank-N-Furter). Dr. Frank-N-Furter is a bisexual, transvestite from Transylvania. He has sex with both Janet and Brad who are supposedly in love. He's also a Nymphomaniac as he creates monsters (both male and female) to have sex with as well. Also Dr. Frank-N-Furter wears a corset throughout the movie and so do some other characters towards the end as well. The movie is very stereotypical about homosexuality as well. Just by the way the characters act, sing and dance even though all homosexuals do not act that way. The movie is filled with sexual references and is easily compared to the sexuality chapter in our Sociology textbook.
