Refining Solution
In the story of the mother and son team that decided on going into the business of making drinking glasses out the consumed bottles of bottled beverages, the mother had an issue using her house as the warehouse and does not want to hit the streets to sell their product. The original resolution the son came up with was assigning the mother duties that she is comfortable doing. She was comfortable delivering the product to customers and keeping track of sales, orders and invoices in which makes the son happy with the compromise the mother has agreed to.
Now to criticize this resolution one would have to think outside of the box. Looking for flaws is the first step one should take when criticizing a solution (Ruggiero, 2009). As ,for example, the mother agreed to deliver the product to the customers and to do the bookkeeping for sales, orders, and invoices. The son would have to think of what can happen while his mom is driving around delivering the product to strangers and also the temptations the mother would be exposed to while she is delivering such as, shopping malls.
The son has to determine how to refine this solution. After all, he is already assuming that his mother is either at risk while she is delivering or she is going to be tempted to spend the money she has collected from delivering the product. So the son has to ask himself how they could come up with a system where his mother is safe and can avoid her temptation of spending the money she is collecting. After all, the solution has to work for both of them (Ruggiero, 2009).
The son presents his concern to the mother in efforts to get some feedback from her as to what she thinks. The mother is not happy of the son's accusation but can understand his concern of her safety. In turn, the mother opposes the original resolution and wants to come up with a new resolution where she feels that she is appreciated and safe at the same time (Ruggiero, 2009).
To refine a solution, one has to state their argument. The son would have to state how he feels about his mother being at risk of getting hurt whether it would be an accident or just having to deal with strangers (Ruggiero, 2009). He is also worried of the tendencies the mother has experienced before of overspending and spontaneous purchasing. He has to make sure when he states his argument it has no flaws that his mother could argue with or she can shut him out completely
