Introduction
The Author of the following Internship Report has undergone a seven week compulsory professional placement offered by the international company called Dukascopy Bank SA (Dukascopy Bank). The aim of the following internship was to apply the Author’s theoretical knowledge and skills acquired in the European Business Studies programme, gain valuable work experience and identify areas for further improvement. The Report contains an overview of the internship company and the activities carried out by the Author in the Company’s Research & Analytics Department in its Riga-based branch office.
Dukascopy Bank is a Swiss innovative online bank with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and offices in Zürich, Riga, Kiev, Moscow, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. Dukascopy Bank provides Internet based and mobile trading services, which focus mainly on foreign exchange, bullion, CFD (Contract for Difference) and binaries, banking and other financial services through innovative proprietary technological solutions. The company is regulated by the the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA as a bank and as a dealer in securities. [a]
Dukascopy Bank owns Dukascopy Europe IBS AS, an EU licensed Riga-based brokerage company, Dukascopy Japan K.K., a Type-1 licensed broker located in Tokyo, Japan, regulated by the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA), and SIA Dukascopy Payments, a European licensed mobile payment system based in Riga, Latvia.
During the internship, the Author was obliged to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- To write short news on the latest political, economic, financial and market events in both Russian and English.
- To conduct expert interviews over the phone or via email.
- To transcribe digitally recorded interviews and prepare an “Expert Commentary” product, which was afterwards published on the Dukascopy website by the Author’s supervisor.
- To cover hot economic topics and provide the company’s users with the latest analytical products during the daily webinars held by the Dukascopy Research Team.
The Author is highly grateful for having a chance to undertake the internship at Dukascopy Bank and become a part of its team. The Author is also thankful for the opportunity to gain valuable work experience relevant to her future career goals and improve her English speaking and writing skills.

Company overview
As it was mentioned previously, the Author fulfilled her mandatory internship in Dukascopy Bank’s representative office in Riga, Latvia, which premises were registered and opened in July 2005 and are located on Lāčplēša Street 20A, LV-1011; however, the head company office is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Accоrding to the Commercial Law of the Republic of Latvia, a fоreign mеrchаnt is аllowed to register a representative office on the territory of Latvia; nevertheless, such representation is not a legal entity and must have a legal address in Latvia.
