The term competitive advantage at its core is the ability to identify and respond to environmental change prior to the competition. Riordan is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding. They have a diverse portfolio with products including but not limited to; precision medical devises to electronic and personnel cooling devises. Riordan's portfolio is similar to that of MillerCoors in that both companies offer a wide array of products designed to fit any and all consumer needs. The tactic of differentiation allows both Riordan and MillerCoors to create a competitive advantage based on products available to the consumer. Both Riordan and MillerCoors are Fortune 1000 companies and sell their product domestically and internationally. Riordan and MillerCoors both implement a distribution based price strategy to further their competitive advantage. The greater distribution the cheaper the price to the retailer and thus a less expensive shelve price to the consumer. The consumer will believe in a perceived value, driving more volume. Both tactics of a diverse portfolio along with cost saving measures will create a significant competitive advantage for both companies. Another similarity between Riordan and MillerCoors is the belief and investment they have for their products or services and the most important asset; their employee. By not only investing in products but also employees both companies gain addition market share based on commitment and desire of those they employee. Employees with help grow a product or service in which they believe in. Diversity of product, cost benefits and the commitment to their products, services and employees are tactics in which Riordan and MillerCoors employ daily.
