We can see some of the finest ancient Roman wall painting in Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, England (Stockstad); also, the bedroom at the villa of Publius Fannius Synistor, outside Pompeii preserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Leicester's Museum of Archaeology it placed in the wonderful setting off the remains of the Roman town's public baths. Their may be few items that some people might like to see today. The detail they had placed into there works it just amazing to the human eye. (Randall)
Some of the technical elements of Roman painting used the fresco technique. Romans sometimes-used bright colored backgrounds to bright the painting. Most of the Roman used a red color for background called "Pompeian red". (Stockstad) Fresco is a when the art of painting on freshly spread moist lime plaster with water-based pigments. The wall painting called Villa of the Mysteries was mostly made of Marble, frieze and pilasters around the sides. Frieze is "a heavy durable coarse wool and shoddy fabric with a rough surface". (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) Roman interior wall of there homes were covered with smooth plaster surface to be painted. On some walls, they would mix a solution of pigment of lime and soap; sometimes they would add in a touch of wax. In early 200 BCE, they would make up thin slabs of marble in different color and place them onto the walls. (Stockstad)
Roman would paint and use sculptors of things that where happening at that given time. It was kind of, like how we use our cameras to take a picture of a special event. In the Imperial Procession artwork, the people in the picture were actually there at that given time. The wall paintings were what people seen when looking out into there yards. In addition, the different paints on the walls where given pictures of event that had happen. When we look at some of the work done, we can see that some are simple works of art and other is more complex. The simple works of art is mostly use for sleep area and reading areas. The more complex works of art is for decorated with symmetrical schemes and subject patterns that invite long-term inspection.
