I have been addicted to the DVD series that came out a few months ago called Rome. It was originally on HBO for two seasons, and for a student who finds history boring as a subject in general, this is a great way of learning about the past. I found it amazing on how true to the historical events of the Roman Empire the show was. I just began watching the second season and only finished the first episode, which was amazing. In the opening Caesar's people are doubting his empire as the soldiers from the "13th" are back from war and have no means of support for themselves and their families. They turn to crime and what seems to be the beginning of the "Italian Mafia" even back then. They were soldiers who defended their empire and died for it in some cases, yet back in Rome they were nothing. All this amongst other events lead to the murder of Ceaser "The Tyrant" by his own council, who turn against him because of Pompe's followers. They stabed him to death. Afterwards Marc Anthony basks in the glory because he thinks he's the next in line for the throne. However, after the will is read, Cease left Octavian as the sole heir to his throne. Of course Marc Anthony is not happy, and the next thing Cleopatra comes to Rome so that Marc Anthony can claim her son as Ceasers son, not of any interest to the throne, but for the child's sake.
