Rosa is about an 11 year old Spanish girl who has to move around a lot because her dad can't find work. She goes to public school and gets made fun of because she is so poor and her accent and poor English. Her family is so poor that the children (Rosa, Juan, and Garciela) sleep on the floor and their "Mama" and "Papa" sleep in the one bed. They are kept warm by a stove they call "Midget" and Rosa would make tortillas every morning for her family so they won't go hungry. Rosa loves to play in an apple orchard and pick apples with her brother and sister. She finally moves somewhere and when she finds a lost dog and then its owner she gets to meet a new friend named Betty who likes her for who she is. They become very best friends and play together all the time. She eventually gets to go to a christian school with Betty and everyone is nice there and accepts her accept for a mean kid name Bud who is a bully and makes fun of her. She gets involved with the school musical program and gets to sing even though she is very nervous about doing it. She meets new friends, has new adventures and finds the true meaning of life. This is a great Christian-based book that speaks to the very heart of friendship, christianity, overcoming obstacles, and finding Christ. This is a great book for young readers!
