Self is your consciousness of your own identity. The self is
an important key in several schools of psychology. Usages differ between theorists and
fields of study, but in general the self refers to the conscious, reflective personality of an
individual. The study of the self involves significant methodological problems, especially
concerning consciousness. Some of these are taken up in philosophy of mind and
metapyhsics.
In philosophy, the self is the idea of a unified being which is the source of an
idiosyncratic consciousness. Moreover, this self is the agent responsible for the thoughts
and actions of an individual to which they are ascribed. It is something which endures
through time; thus, the thoughts and actions at different moments of time may pertain to the
same self.
Self is like myself taking that first exam in this class this semester. I was expecting
maybe a 70 or 75, and I was looking forward to seeing that score for when I got my exam
back. I receive my exam and its not a 70-75. In fact it is lower. I was stunned because I
really studied. I think I should have gone over the notes more a little bit. I was disappointed
at first then realized I have 2 more exams and a research paper to fix my grades on. My

mood went from up to down on the break. I was actually still feeling the flu I had recently
obtained so I left class early. My self-perception was going down the drain. But like I said I
am only 1/3 done, I still have time to pass this class.
