SERIAL KILLERS
A serial killer is a person who kills three or more persons on three or more separate occasions. Now it seems that many peoples view on serial killers is that they should be put away forever, and never be given a chance to reform their lifestyle or help them get better in any way shape or form. People think it is impossible to try and help a serial killer get better because they are too psychologically damaged and they would go back to the same routine if had the chance. Coming from a different perspective some think that serial killers shouldn't be put away behind bars for the rest of their life, because they do not know the concept of what is right from wrong. So by not locking them up, serial killers should be put into mental health institutions to try to rehabilitate them to a normal person of society instead of locking the serial killer up for good and never having to deal with that person again.
General Idea Of Serial Killers
It is a general assumption that serial killers were born to kill, which in reality is not true. Usually a serial killer is placed in a bad environment to live in as a child. When someone is a child and they are constantly abused physically and verbally, then neglected for long periods of time that little boy or girl never has that opportunity to express or learn any of the complex emotions or feelings as regular people in society develop as a child. So eventually over time the person grows and feels hatred and anger for everyone else. The normal childhood for a serial killer is usually a long rocky road and eventually the child snaps because they can't take the abuse anymore. Children are not meant to take the emotional toll and abuse from their parents, neighbors, family, etc. Charles Manson is one of the world's most well-known serial killers. His Childhood was an extremely rough path. His mother had Charles at sixteen years old. Obviously she was not ready to take care of a child. After the birth Charles' mom became an alcoholic and never took care of him and eventually she went to prison. Now Manson had never met his father, so when she went to prison Charles bounced around from different family members and never got the love and care he so desperately needed. After being neglected by his mother and his family he was kicked to the curb and sent to a reform school (Crime Library, 2012). Now eventually one of his family members took him back at age nine, but by then it was too late. He started stealing cars and stealing from little stores at age nine. This is where it all began for Mr. Manson. Just from the little synopsis about Manson's childhood, everyone can see how there is no room for love and compassion just hate and neglect. Manson knew that no one wanted him at an early age and that is how everything went downhill. Manson said that "The only thing my mother taught me was that everything she said was a lie, and I learned never to believe anyone about anything." (Filiquarian Pub, 2008)
Types of Serial Killers
There are three types of serial killers that are classified in today's society. The first of the types is a thrill killer. In this one the murderer won't just take a gun and then kill the person and it's over. First he stalks his "prey" and then grabs them at their most vulnerable (Siegel, 2008). After he kidnaps them he will then take the victim to his house or where ever he locks them up. In that long period of time the victim is alive, he will torture them as in abuse them not feed them chain them up etc. then in some cases the killer will rape his victim, but this is only in some cases. Then eventually when they feel it is right they kill them. So the reason why all of this happens in the thrill killing is type is because the murderer wants to show dominance over the victim. He wants to know that he is in charge and that the victim also knows that they are helpless. (Holmes, 1988, Burger). The example of this would be the Charles Manson because he wanted to show that he was dominant over his cult called "the family" and he ordered out the killings but instead of him killing he had the people in his "family" to do so.
The second type of the serial killer is the so called "Mission Killer". Now this is a little different from the thrill killer because the thrill killer is fully aware of what he is doing is wrong, but they will do it anyway. The mission serial killer on the other hand doesn't think what he is doing is wrong at all. He thinks that by killing that person it will help the better of the community and the world. This killer is less likely to hold their victims hostage because they don't feel the need to do so they just want to kill them and get it over with and supposedly help the world to be a better place. "Harold Frederick Shipman is known as Britain's most notorious serial killer who was a general practitioner and then he was convicted of 15 murders, most of them elderly women and the youngest was a 41 year old man. Shipman said that when he was killing those people that he was putting them out of their pain and suffering. After he was incarcerated he committed suicide in 2004 on his birthday. When that happened there was an investigation on Shipman, and they found that he had killed over 215 people most elderly women, shipman said they were sick and dying"(Siegel, 2008). The coroner on the other hand said that a majority of the people he killed were in good standing health. Shipman thought that he was doing the right that by killing these ill patients in his opinion he was doing right and justice, but in reality he was just killing people at will.
"Expedience Killers are out for profit or want to protect themselves from a perceived threat."(Siegel, 2008). This kind of killer thinks that they are protecting themself from harm's way, and in order to do that they must kill that so called "threat". On the other hand they could be out for a profit. Many People don't think about this but gang members that are high up in the gang are serial killers. Just like Charles Manson he didn't commit the actual act of the murder but without them there would be no killing going on. A gangbanger high up in the gang can be very paranoid that someone is always trying to kill them, but if they're not they could tell on of their minions or soldiers to kill someone in another gang because
